Art Swap: Using Text Pages

November’s art swap was to create two pieces of artwork using text pages. I used a page from a 1950’s children’s book for the elephant painting and a page from ‘Flow’ Magazine, for the Mandala painting. The paper is not glossy like some magazine and ideal for artwork.

I used ‘Prima’ – Tropical water colors for both paintings.

My swap parnter for this month Bernadette from Oregon sent me this very cute little note book.

Portrait of an Elegant Lady

I recently did on a online class called ‘Portrait Play’.  This is the third class I’ve done with Alisha Burke, she has a variety of art and craft classes at a reasonable price. Here is the link to her website – Alisha Burke.

As soon as I finished the class I couldn’t wait to draw a portrait.  I painted the background, used coloured pencils for the portrait and used some tropical leaves graphics to enhance the picture.

Mail Art: A Collaged Postcard & A Art Supply Giveaway

Collaged Postcard

October’s Art Swap: A Collaged Postcard  is to make a postcard using at least one piece of collage.  I decided to make most of this postcard with collage, also using some coloured pencils to colour in some starfish. Below is the back of the postcard.

Mail Art: Hand Made Paper Beads

Paper Beads

Augusts Art Swap was to make paper beads. We could choose how many swaps, each swap being 20 beads. I have never made beads before and it was relativity easy.

I randomly hand painted some A4 sheets of paper, painting the opposite way to how the beads are rolled (Photos No. 1 – 3).  I also made some from magazine pages (Photo No. 4). I played around making different shapes and decorated some with colourful threads and paua shells.

These beads can used in art journaling or to decorate gift tags.

If you want to learn how to make these beads the link is here.

Mail Art: Recycled Tags for Art Journaling

July’s Art Swap was to make three tags for an art journal, the theme being ‘Rainbow’. I recycled some tags that are usually pinned to new clothes. I painted and collaged both sides and added a few beads and stamps.

One morning I opened my back door and there was a parcel sitting on the doorstep. My swap partner Tiana from Texas completely spoilt me and sent me lots of goodies beside tags – a texas badge, a card, packet of Lupin seeds and 2 packets of peanut brittle. I felt like it was my birthday and she was so generous.

I enjoy receiving Mail Art, no-one seems to write letters these days.  It makes a pleasant change to receive some art work in my letterbox instead of junk mail and bills.

Every Painting Tells A Story

One of my jobs is to visit an old woman who has dementia and is now in a rest home.  She is a famous painter and was an art teacher.  I take her out for a coffee, go for a walk or we paint together.  Having someone to paint with motivates her and she often gives me advice.

I did this painting at the rest home, with no sketches or plan as I am only there for two hours per visit.

My other job is I do accounts for a community non-profit organisation.

Mixed Media Art

My friend holds a craft/art night occasionally.  She usually gives us prompts or themes.  The prompt of this painting was to do a sketch from a magazine.  I used water-color for the face and glued which I glued to a collage background.

Don’t you think she looks like Stevie Nick’s? from the band Fleetwood Mac.

Mixed Media Art

I thought I’d give intuitive painting a go, which is where you draw random shapes with no plan.  I did this a few days after one of my chickens had died and I was very upset.  So this painting ended up with a few egg shapes.
