Art Swap: Using Text Pages

November’s art swap was to create two pieces of artwork using text pages. I used a page from a 1950’s children’s book for the elephant painting and a page from ‘Flow’ Magazine, for the Mandala painting. The paper is not glossy like some magazine and ideal for artwork.

I used ‘Prima’ – Tropical water colors for both paintings.

My swap parnter for this month Bernadette from Oregon sent me this very cute little note book.

Mail Art: A Collaged Postcard & A Art Supply Giveaway

Collaged Postcard

October’s Art Swap: A Collaged Postcard  is to make a postcard using at least one piece of collage.  I decided to make most of this postcard with collage, also using some coloured pencils to colour in some starfish. Below is the back of the postcard.

Mail Art: ‘Summer’ Journal Page

Mail Art - 'Summer'

Mail Art

I belong to a monthly Art Swap Group, a different theme for each month. The group selects a partner and you send your artwork to that person, vice versa. I look forward to receiving artwork and cards in my post box.

July’s challenge was to make a journal page with the theme ‘Summer’.  The first photo is the outside of the page and second photo the inside.

I recently bought a journal, I haven’t kept a diary/journal since I was a teenager.  It’s quite fun, I have glued in some of my sketch’s and done some writing.

Restored Rustic Kitchen Table

I am not sure how old this rustic table is, it had been sitting in a shed for quite a number of years.  I bought this table for a $100, it was dirty and had dogs teeth marks embedded in the wood.  My son and I attempted to restore it, but sanding the legs was hard work as we didn’t have any tools and we were probably doing more damage.

I found a local man who restored furniture as a hobby, he agreed to restore the table for $150.  He wasn’t sure what sort of wood it was but thought that the top was Rimu and the legs Kauri, both New Zealand native trees.  Both of these woods have a lovely honey colour.  The top was finished with Linseed Oil for a natural look.

I have been using this table for my painting and had a plastic cloth over it.  My kitchen is very small so we do not normally eat at the table.
